Who is wealthy?
It may not be the person with the most ’stuff’. Such a person may be stressed and drowning in debt.
It is not the ’successful’ person who has ‘made it’. Such a person may feel secretly empty, realising he is an actor in a play devised by other people.
It is not even the person who has the most ready cash. It is better to have £50,000 in the bank than a £500,000 business with a negative cash flow. This is because it is possible to enjoy the £50,000 while the £500,000 is an accounting fiction.
The wealthy person has more than he needs to achieve his goals. I am wealthy (even though I have no money). You can be wealthy too.
Try this exercise.
1. To reduce the clutter and stress of life by disposing of everything that does not make you happy.
Sell your junk. Rent out that room. Use up all those items you stockpile and stop buying more. You probably have £30,000 worth of stuff in your home that does nothing for you. Be free of it and hold that money in cash instead.
Set aside this money as a separate investment fund. Pay off your debts. Once you have made your £30,000 you will have graduated from this level, but in reality the process will never end.
2. Become the master of your emotions.
No advertiser can sell to a truly happy person. Some sense of lack needs to be created. Learn to tell the difference between real and created needs. This has nothing to do with self denial. The things you choose to buy will give you greater pleasure than before- the point is that it is you and not the advertiser who is in charge.
3. Help others.
People who live only for themselves are generally unhappy and you will find yourself feeling more generious as you feel more wealthy. Sharing will be a joy and not a duty.
